who is
seb lusby?
why should you care?
Seb Lusby is a Tauranga born and based singer songwriter making alternative pop that swings between glossy, radio ready hooks and something darker underneath. His music is built around the image of an old rotary phone: dial tones, missed calls and distress signals as a metaphor for connection, loss, and not being heard.
His debut mini album EP, Soul Phone, is the first chapter of a planned eight song project, with the single “Dial Tones” shaped by input from respected figures across the NZ music scene.
Seb works in the NZ music scene as well as performing in it, with event work at Tauranga Taste, the Kapiti Classic, The Thrift Shop Ball, The MAUAO Landslide Fundraiser, and media coverage of New Zealand Fashion Week. On stage, he has played Tortora St, the Toi Ohomai campuses in Tauranga and Rotorua, a waterfront gig he organised with Tauranga City Council, Crankworx Rotorua, and Tauranga Fringe Festival was his first ever festival performance.
As a kid, Seb once sent an audition tape to the show Neighbours hoping to sing the new theme song… he didn’t get it. He also spent his childhood belting Ariana Grande at full volume anywhere he could get away with it: the grocery store, the car, the park, mp3 player in hand, completely unbothered, on repeat, at full volume.
